Recently I had the pleasure of being a part of one of our Homes of Hope builds in our neighboring village “Loma Bonita”. Although it is special every time a family receives a home of their own, this one touched me in a different way. Many times the families who receive homes have multiple young children, but this family was much different. María and Magdaleno have been married for almost 50 years. Every time I asked them how long they had been married, I got a slightly different number, haha, but in the end they decided that it had been “just about 50 years”. I guess it would be easy to lose track when you’ve been married for that long! Magdaleno is completely deaf, and a few years ago suffered a stroke. For these reasons, along with his age, he is no longer able to work full-time, making it difficult to provide for him and his wife. Watching Magdaleno and his wife María interact was absolutely beautiful. He is able to read lips, and because he was not deaf his entire life, he is able to speak, although it takes a special woman like his wife to understand all he is saying. She is strong, and he is a giant sweetheart. Of course there were many tears of joy shed when we presented them with the home, and they shared with us the overwhelming gratitude they felt for this gift that God had provided.
Other than this, things have been going well for Jordan and I. Jordan is continuing his work in media and communications, recruiting students for our upcoming schools and missionary training programs. We have seen a huge increase in inquiries for our upcoming schools, which is exciting as we look to grow and expand as a ministry. My work in our hospitality department has certainly been busy at times, preparing and maintaining rooms for our incoming Homes of Hope teams and missions groups, while also working at times with Homes of Hope on our construction days.
1. Prayer for our soccer ministry, as we look to find a more consistent playing field for both Tuesdays and Thursdays, and work on inviting more children.
2. Prayer for the ministry as a whole as we work to purchase the property in front of us to build more classrooms, and expand further into the city.
3. Prayer for Jordan and I together as a couple, that we would maintain a healthy balance of focus on our personal relationship while also focused on the work God has called us to.
