12 Beautiful Young Ladies
Back2Back Girls Home
Hi all, Kendra writing here! We’ve decided to focus this update on sharing a little more about my new role in ministry! As many of you may know, I have been serving at an adolescent girls home here in Mazatlan, about 10 minutes drive from our house. The home is dedicated to young girls coming out of situations of abuse or trauma, although each of their stories is very different. I suppose you could say that I’m similar to a big sister, or mentor in their lives. Many of these girls have had many people come and go from their lives, but my heart is to show them that I am someone who will stick it out for the long haul… someone they can trust.
Each day with them looks very different, from helping with homework, studying, bible reading, bible-verse memorization, games, arts and crafts, and many precious moments of simply sitting, talking, and processing where they are in life. God has provided opportunity after opportunity to share about Him and His desire for each of them, along with allowing me to encourage them in a Godly way as they work through this season in their lives. Just recently one of the girls pursued me to talk about boys and what the bible says about sex and relationships. I was thrilled to be someone she trusted enough and desired to talk to about this topic. I was able to encourage her and share God’s desires for her, as she willingly opened up to me about her life.
Below are a few photos to give you an idea of what a normal day looks like for me. Thank you for making an impact in each of these girls, by supporting our work here and allowing me to serve them in this time of great need in their lives. The impact we can make together on each of their lives is irreplaceable.
This is Kimberly. She is 9 years old and joined the home a few months ago.
Beautiful ladies!
“I can do all through Christ who strengthens me.”
Arts and crafts day! Always a favorite among the girls.
Anahi working hard during her devotional time. The girls have booklets they fill out from youth group about what they read that week.
For some of the girls reading is an area they are still growing in, so I’m able to help them understand and put into their own words what they just read. Currently studying Matthew!
Making soft pretzels! Learning kitchen skills is another important area to focus on.
Cooking & Baking class. On this day we made Tuna Cakes. Sounds strange, but they all loved it!
And my favorite photo of all. For mothers day, the girls had to fill out a questionnaire for school all about their mother. Miranda, who has never known her parents, put me down as her mother and filled out the paper about me. I was honored to know I have such a special place in her heart. On the right side she drew a picture of us. 🙂
Miranda and I on Mother’s Day!
Group shot! A few weeks ago we welcomed another girl to the home, Guadalupe, who didn’t make it in this photo. So, in total we have 12 beautiful young ladies! Thank you Lord for each of their lives and for allowing me to be a part of it all.
Thank you again for your love, support and prayers and for taking the time to read this update! We love each of you and are so thankful and honored to be able to do what we do here in Mexico.
